Looking Great "Everything was falling into place. I knew I had changed my life for the better." In Week 12, I began to understand why the Challenge lasts 12 weeks instead of nine or 15. Twelve weeks is enough time to see fabulous results, yet not so long that it makes you want to quit. As my last week approached, I felt a giddy sense of achievement. I had almost completed something I never thought I'd be able to accomplish. I couldn't stop smiling and looking in the mirror.

Week 12 also burned a hole in my pocket because I wanted to buy a new wardrobe to fit my new body. Now I had a perfect excuse to go out and shop till I dropped. In the past, I was a pain in the butt to shop with because I would get all moody and dramatic when I'd try on clothes. Nothing ever fit or looked good on me. Sometimes, I would leave the mall in tears.

Now, everything fit, and everything looked great. I spent an entire day at the mall and bought enough to replace everything in my closet. When I got back to my room, loaded with shopping bags, I threw all my "fat" clothes into a sack to give to charity. It was a big moment for me. It's when my old life ended and my new life began.

That weekend, I returned home to show my mom my new clothes and take my final measurements. I was nervous but also excited to see my results. My weight: 120 pounds. My body fat: 17 percent. The numbers were jaw dropping. Never before, even on my best days, had I looked this good. I was amazed with myself and proud. Naturally, I wanted to celebrate with something sugary, like cake with tons of icing. But I couldn't do that yet, because tomorrow was my photo shoot. The next day, I did my hair and makeup. Again, I was really nervous. When I stood in front of a camera for my "before" pictures, it was awful. I'll never forget the pictures of me with three chins. But now things were different. I was taking these pictures because I looked good! Especially in my red-hot bikini. The photographer took some really cool indoor shots as well as some outdoor shots. My favorite setting was a bridge in downtown Omaha. We took a ton of pictures of me in various poses under the bridge. All the while, passing motorists were honking their horns. It was no mystery: I looked great!

The day was exciting but exhausting. I'd never imagined that having a good body could be so tiring. I got home late and instead of treating myself to celebratory cake, ate yet another healthy meal of chicken and broccoli. That night, I went to bed feeling awesome. I had everything going for me. Everything was falling into place. I knew I had changed my life for the better.
